Examples and info on using a wide angle lens with the Apple QuickTake 200

From David Dantowitz

The Raynox DSR-650 Wide Angle lens is a great add-on for the Apple QuickTake 200, especially for QuickTime VR.

Here's a QuickTimeVR panorama of Axis Design's Studio created with 16 low-res stills using the Apple QuickTake 200 and the Raynox wide angle lens.

About the wide angle lens for the QT 200
I got the lens and adapter from Focus Camera in NY (www.FocusCamera.com), just by searching for Raynox and DS-7 on the web (after a HINT from Kaidan that Raynox might have a lens). The total price with shipping was $91.90.

Unfortunately, you can't use the adapter bracket because it was designed for the Fuji DS-7 camera and Apple has modified the front of the camera (they made the little "flag" that has the Apple logo a little shapelier). So, to get things to fit properly, you have to change the bracket.

Once you put the bracket on the camera you can see what you have to modify... I removed the bottom lip of the bracket that goes over the logo, and removed just enough of the upper lip to permit the bracket to fit properly. Still recommend using a rubber band to hold it in place.

It took all of 7 minutes to get a rough feel, and another 20 or so of fine tuning. We've shot two QTVR panoramas with the new lens adapter. Will post them soon.

The other must have recommendation for the QuickTake 200 (for PC Card PowerBook users) is the PC Card adapter for the RAM cards. Makes loading images from the camera take a few seconds, as opposed to 10 minutes. It's FujiFilm's SmartMedia PC Card adapter (PC-AD). Street price is around $100 and saves you so much time. The little memory card from the camera mounts as a little hard disk on the desktop. Simply drag the images over to your hard drive and that's it!
